About Us

Tony COIFFET - Technician

Tony began training as a piano tuner in France at the age of eighteen: starting with a year of full-time training at the European Technical Institute for Musical Trades (ITEMM, Le Mans, France), Tony then did an apprenticeship at Kawai France (Burgundy) for two years, under the supervision of esteemed technician Stephane Boussuge, sole Kawai MPA (Kawai Master Piano Artisan) for France. Tony received a thorough concert technician training in France before moving to Australia.
After more than ten years servicing pianos in regional Australia and learning about humidity the hard way and becoming a citizen, Tony then spent the best of three years working in Sydney (Sydney town hall, conservatorium of music, Trackdown studios, Phoenix, PLC, Ravenswood school for girls, etc.)

Other qualifications & affiliations:
- Member of the APTTA (Australasian Piano Tuners and Technicians Association)
- Member of EuroPiano (France)
- ARPT (Australasian Registered Piano Technician)
- Certified Piano Life Saver installer

“I started training as a piano technician at Kawai France during a financial crisis. This means our workload was dramatically reduced, so I was lucky to spend a lot of time studying in the showroom, working on the very fine quality hand-built Shigeru concert pianos. I'll always be grateful for this opportunity and privilege, which allowed me to benefit from an extraordinary initial training. I'm passionate about anything to do with pianos, classical music, gardening, and… humidity!"
